A Church In Taiwan Made Of Paper


The Paper Dome is giant hallow paper and constructed using solid paper tubes used as temporary church building in the past and currently located at Puli Township, Nantou Country, Taiwan. The eclipse shaped dome was made with 58 cardboard tubes.

The diameter of every tubes are 33cm each and 1.5cm in thickness. The tubes are coated with water resistant protective covering. The while paper dome can support a weight of up to 7000kg


Originally donated by Japan, this temporary structure was built on September 17, 1995 to serve as a temporary church for  after the Great Hanshin earthquake, a statue of Jesus still standing after the Earthquake as people believe it is a miracle. International japanese architect Shigeru Ban was invited to build this temporary church for survivors.
