30,000 Troops Ready To Serve As Typhoon Lekima Impacts Northern Taiwan

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) has set up a disaster response center and placed more than 30,000 troops ready to serve as Typhoon Lekima to impact Northern Taiwan. 

With coordination to its local government and cities, the troops on standby whose main service is for disaster preparedness and disaster relief work. 

More than 33,000 soldiers, mostly are marines and special forces with more than 4,200 military vehicles and equipment, including Amphibious Assault Vehicles, rubber boats, generators and water pumps, are in those areas expected to be hit hardest.

Lekima is moving at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour in a northwesterly direction, it was packing maximum winds of 191 kph, with gusts of up to 234 kph, according to data from the Central Weather Bureau.
