Blood samples of pigs that eventually dies tested positive for African Swine Fever in Philippines


Fourteen out of total 20 blood samples from sick pigs in the Philippines that eventually died in local piggeries tested positive of African Swine Fever (ASF), according to the Department of Agriculture (DA), reported by Inquirer.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said on a press release that “We received late last week the laboratory test results coming from the United Kingdom on this test called polymerase chain reaction test. And 20 blood samples have been sent. And out of the 20 blood samples, 14 are positive with African Swine Fever”.

The blood samples were sent to the United Kingdom for testing as 7,416 pigs have been exterminated which mostly came crom Rodriguez and Antipolo in Rizal and Guiguinto in Bulacan.

DA now also ordered strict certification of live animals and proccesed meat products that moved towards the country.
