Malasakit Center Bill was approved by the House of Representatives for all Filipinos especially the poor

Manila, Philippines- he House of Representatives was approved a bill that wants to promote the availability of Malasakit Centers in all Department of Health (DOH) hospitals nationwide.

This bill is set forth in House Bill 5477 where it was approved with 185 votes in favor of the bill, with one vote unanimous and seven abstaining.

Under this bill, the Malasakit Center aims to serve as one-stop shops that will speed up the processes of obtaining medical and financial assistance related to healthcare professionals and patients with financial difficulties.

These centers house various government agencies offering health care financing assistance including the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Charity Sweeptakes Office (PCSO)  , and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and among others.

The Malasakit Program should also be structured to supplement the Centers, as well as implement the Universal Health Care Law.

The Senate currently approved their own version of the bill in the third and final reading last week.

Senate Bill 1076 main author and sponsor Senator Christopher "Bong" Go said the Malasakit Center are one of the solutions developed by the Duterte Administration to provide fast and good quality access to healthcare for  all Filipinos regardless of their age, gender, religion, ethnic background and political affiliation.

Senator Go added that using the Malasakit Center is an action to adapt the Universal Health Care Law as it is a step closer to making quality health care more accessible and affordable for all Filipinos especially those  poor patients who need medical assistance from the government.
