Philippine government to decide within next 2 days whether or not to lift the ban on Taiwan


In Manila, during the Interagency meeting between the country of Taiwan and Philippines. The Taiwan government has urged the Philippines to lift the ban in the country.

Late Midnight when the Philippine government had imposed temporary ban to travellers from Taiwan. This Wednesday the Philippine government said that they will decide within the next two days whether or not to lift a travel ban on Taiwan, according to Usec. Eric Domingo of Department of Health Philippine.

"The inter-agency task force has assigned a communication person for that, so anything that has to do with that will have to come from the task force," he said.

Also on Tuesday, Angelito Banayo, chairman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), the Philippines de-facto embassy in Taiwan, urged in a column in the Manila Standard that what is a health issue not be politicized.

Meanwhile, DOH has re-iterated that they only based on the map of WHO and Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations and has been blocked from participating in U.N.-affiliated organizations such as the WHO primarily because of opposition from China.
