Visit in one of the oldest temple in Taiwan the Shonghan Ciyou Temple

The temple was built in the mid-18th century. The story of this temple was started with the monk who is carrying the image of Mazu, the Goddess of the Sea were he begged for an alms. One day in Xikou (old name of the district) he returns with several people (all Mazu believers) and they came up with a plan to build a temple to honor the goddess. It takes 10 years to raise a fund for the construction of the temple from 1753 to 1757. The top roof of the temple was very ornamented. Because of the believes that the dragon prevents fire, they placed a flying dragon in addition to human figures. The devotees lighted the layer bay layer oil lamps hoping that Mazu grants their wishes. From the side altar to the right of Mazu the large enshrine the Earth God, who is protected on either side by flag-gearing tiger lords. And from the left side of the altar, was devoted to Zhusheng Niang, the goddess of birth. Instead of putting 12 aids, they put 13 aids to honor Duyu Niang who was a midwife that helps women to give birth without accepting money from anyone.
